THE METAL LATHE KEPT IN HIS BUS FOR YEARS UNTIL HE MOVED INTO THE BRUCKER COMPOUND IN SANTA PAULA, WHERE DUTCHED PLACED IT IN HIS SHOP. ALL HIS FAMOUS GUNS AND KNIVES WERE PRODUCED USING THIS TOOL.....ALL DONE BY EYEBALL......VERY SELDOM ACTUALLY MEASURING ANYTHING. |

SLIMBO WITH DUTCH SLIMBO WAS A STUDENT OF DUTCH FROM THE EARLY 5Os. IN THOSE DAYS, HE WAS KNOWN AS "THE REDONDO BEACH LACQUER LAD"(no kidding). HE SOON STARTED USING THE NAME 'SLIMBO' (real name Jean Kier), and became one of the great pinstripers of the 70s and 80s. HE WAS VERY ALOOF, AND WOULD NEVER STRIPE A CAR HE DIDN'T LIKE, BUT NOONE COULD PULL A LONG LINE BETTER. HE WAS THE FUNNIEST PERSON I EVER KNEW. |

THE WINTON FLYER AS STEVE McQUEEN'S LUCKY PIECE, DUTCH (a self-admitted frustrated actor wannabee)HAD MANY OPPORTUNITIES TO PLAY IN THE PRODUCTION OF VARIOUS MOVIES. ONE OF THEM WAS THE McQUEEN FLICK 'THE RIEVERS'. DUTCH BUILT THE CAR OUT OF JUNK PARTS AND SOME BRITTISH MORRIS PIECES, AND AFTER SOME MAJOR EFFORT, GOT IT TO SOUND LIKE A VEHICLE FROM THAT PERIOD. DUTCH WAS MANY THINGS, BUT HE WAS MOSTLY A MASTER OF FABRICATION. TO THIS DAY, MANY BELIEVE THAT THE WINTON FLYER WAS A REAL CAR! |

1969 CORD REPLICA ORIGINALLY BUILT IN OKLAHOMA IN 1969 BY THE S.A.M.C.O. Corp.THE CAR CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED TO THE GROUND. I TOOK IT TO DUTCH WITH SOME IDEAS FOR IT'S DESIGN, AND DUTCH WENT TO WORK. USING AUTHENTIC CORD PARTS AND HIS GREAT FABRICATING ABILITY, PLUS HELP FROM DICK O'DETTE AND MYSELF IN THE 'GRUNT' WORK, A TRUE MASTERPIECE WAS BORN. DUTCH PAINTED THE CAR WITH PURE RED PIGMENT ENAMEL MADE BY HONDA, HEATED IT TO A PRE-BOIL ON A HOTPLATE AND SHOT IT HOT AND THICK ONTO THE FIBREGLASS SHELL. IT TOOK WEEKS TO THOROUGHLY DRY IN THE ARIZONA SUMMER SUN, BUT WHEN IT FINALLY DID DRY, YOU COULD POUR BATTERY ACID ON IT WITH NO NEGATIVE RESULTS. THEN THERE'S THE 'STOP SIGN' ENGINE-TURNED DASHBOARD. ALONG WITH THE KENFORD, THE CORD SHOWS DUTCH'S FABRICATION ABILITIES BEST. |
