Dutch was McQueen's "lucky piece". Steve kept him around until DUTCH became overly "TASMANIAN" on the LeMANS shoot in France. They got together again for TOM HORN. Dutch was promised the part of the HANGMAN if he would fabricate a "hanging contraption" for the movie. The "contraption got "in", but DUTCH was "out"! You can see the device at the end of the film, when they hang TOM HORN.
