He was a frustrated actor who played the "VON DUTCH" character  and eventually became that character, much to the dismay of those he came in contact with, who were not on his level of humor. His tirades were all 'put on'. Only those closest to him understood that. The rest didn't. And they were the ones who became the objects of Dutch's biting "humor".He just couldn't tolerate those who didn't "get it"!
